My Photography Story

I started becoming interested in photography while I was living in Turkey with my ex-husband. I bought a high end point and shoot camera and was taking it everywhere. When I would finish my day of photo taking, I would hop on the computer and start the editing process. By the way, I had no clue what I was doing. I had over exposed, color cast, underexposed, blurry photos. But, I was in love.

I took a photography class that one of the Air Force wives was putting on. The information she offered in the class put me on my way to becoming a better photographer.

Photography was not something I ever thought I would make a living with. When I moved to Arkansas after the 2 years of photo taking in Turkey, I bought my first DSLR. It was a Nikon and I fell further in love. Needless to say I am brand loyal to Nikon. My photos were more vibrant and I felt like I was not having to work as hard to obtain beautiful ones. I took that camera everywhere as well. It became like a 3rd arm.
During this time, I was also a Doula. For those of you who don't know what that is. Here is a link: https://www.dona.org/what-is-a-doula/. I would bring my camera to births and it made me realize that although I was passionate about birth, and helping people, I loved being behind the camera as well. Giving mamas unforgettable moments on film made me so happy.

Time passed and I started booking weddings, maternity shoots, birth shoots, and family photography. I wasn't doing too shabby. My friends were very supportive and knew they could call me for all their photography needs. I spent hours on editing and making sure my clients were happy with the final results. P.S. by this point I had taken a few photoshop courses.
Ultimately I was remarried and still photographing everything. The marriage did not last and due to some unforeseen circumstances, I had to sell my camera and all my gear to make ends meet. It would be 2 years before I picked up another camera.
Without my camera as an extension of myself I felt useless. Like there was no way to express my emotions or my art. My boyfriend noticed this and knew exactly what he had to do. Last Christmas he bought me a Nikon D300. Since then, I feel like I have had a reset and I am as passionate as ever.
I am hoping to get my business up and running and be able to express myself through my art once again. I am so thankful for all of you and the support you are offering. I could not ask for a better group of people in my life. I am truly blessed!
